Kangwon National University is one of ten core national universities located in Chuncheon, the capital of G(K)angwon Province in Korea। Korea has a juridical system with eight provinces and two metropolitan cities, each of which has one of those core national universities.

1947 Established Chuncheon Provincial Agricultural College (of G(K)angwon Province) -

1952 Changed the College name to Chuncheon Agricultural College.

1947. 06. 14 Established Kangwon provisional Chuncheon Agricultural College

1952. 03. 01 Name changed to Chuncheon Agricultural College

1968. 03. 01 Established a graduate school

1947. 06. 14 Established Kangwon provisional Chuncheon Agricultural College

1970. 03. 01 Name changed to Kangwon College

1978. 03. 01 Promoted to a Complex university, Kangwon UniversityEstablished the College of Agriculture, the College of Education, the College of Law and Business Administration, the College of Science and Engineering and the General ED Department

1979. 03. 01 the College of Science and Engineering is divided into the College of Nature Science and the College of Engineering.Established the Graduate school of Education

1980. 03. 01 The college of Law and Business Administration divided into the College of Law and the College of Business Administration. Established Graduate school of Business Administration

1981. 03. 01 Established the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

1982. 03. 01 Established the College of Forestry(Present: The College of Forest Science) as well as the College of Education-affiliated high school

1988. 03. 01 Established the College of Livestock (Present: The College of Animal Life Science)

1989. 03. 01 Established the College of Pharmacy

1991. 03. 01 The College of Humanities and Social Science divided into the College of Social Science and the College of Humanities, established Graduate School of Industry

1994. 03. 01 Established the College of Art (Present: The College of Culture and Art)

1996. 03. 01 Established the Graduate School of Information

1997. 03. 01 Established the College of Medicine

2000. 05. 18 Established Kangwon National University Hospital

2002. 03. 01 Established the College of Law School

2004. 01. 10 Established the Industrial Cooperation company of the Kangwon University (Special Cooperation)

08. 05 Dr. Choi, Hyunseop took up office as the 8th president of the university

2006. 03. 01 Merged with Samcheok University, which became Kangwon National UniversityEstablished schools (School of BT and IT, Veterinary Medicine, Chinese Health and Welfare)
